accurately position the load automatically for crane interface.

The video below shows the operation of Lauyans & Company’s Transporter™ 2007.

The Transporter is used in Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) freezer applications in which pallet loads are transported from the mainline conveyor and presented to the stacker crane within a ±1/4” tolerance. This new innovation replaces four (4) pieces of conventional conveyor equipment. It eliminates the use of hydraulic lift tables at the stacker crane interface and also eliminates 75% of the drives.

Installation and startup of the Transporter 2007™ is greatly simplified due to its single piece construction. Electrical devices and optional controls are prewired and tested at Lauyans & Company prior to shipment. This reduces overall cost of installation, field wiring and startup of the system. Maintenance time is also reduced by the unique modular design. All of the major components can be pulled out and quickly replaced insuring production down time is at a minimum. There are also visual and audio aids to help maintenance personnel detect a potential problem before it becomes serious.

The Transporter 2007™ is one of the first designs in a series of conveyor equipment used in freezer applications. Other design innovations will be introduced in the future. The Transporter 2007™ and other future designs will be backed by a four (4) year warranty on the mechanical devices.


Autoclave Transfer System

This customer approached us in 2010; to help them solve several issues with their
existing handling system. The existing system lacked flexibility, and required the use of
multiple pit mounted scissors lift tables that were maintenance problems as well as being
collection pits for product, fluids, etc.

Lauyans & Company provided a solution that employs two independent Transfer Cars,
each with the ability to extend up to the autoclave interface position; omitting the need
for the pit mounted lift tables. After integration of the two new Transfer Cars, the old lifts
were removed and the pits were back-filled.

The new cars were also integrated with a wireless control network, greatly simplifying
the dispatching and logic communications needed for the car control.


Continuous Vertical Conveyor

A design that uses a roller chain to power the parts carriers (either UP or DOWN service) in a continuous
path; to pick a carton or tote and transfer it to a different elevation.

This design is limited to case or tote sizes of 15” x 18” at 50 pounds, maximum. Several examples of this
style of lift are seen below.


Ergonomic Equipment


High Temperature Conveyors

A customer of ours that forges automotive parts has contracted us multiple times throughout the years to assist them with unique handling situations.

Several of the projects that we have done for this customer require the handling of parts that are heated; either preceding entry into the forge or just after exiting the forging process. Here, the parts handled can be up to 1,700°F.; requiring special power transmission components and heat isolation barriers.


Low Temperature and Freezer Conveyors

Applications requiring the ability to operate in refrigerated and sub-zero environments are challenges that we conquer on a regular basis.

In the photo examples seen below you will see an application that required multiple turntables and chain conveyors designed for use in a freezer application.

Also shown are two examples of Pick and Deposit Stations that handled food product in a refrigerated warehouse. One is a P&D Station for case goods, and the other for palletized cases.


Mole Transfer Device

A shipping system in a beverage distribution center required a dispatch machine that had the capability to interface with multiple Pallet Build Stations, as well as interface with other processing conveyors.

For this application Lauyans & Company developed a Mole Transfer Device. The mole can be carried laterally to any of (38) possible interface positions by a motor driven transfer; where the “mole” can lift and carry the load to the proper position.


Nuclear Waste Remediation Facility

Lauyans & Company was challenged to provide a wide variety of box and drum handling equipment needed to process radioactive waste that is being retrieved and re-containerized for disposition in a new facility.

We provided equipment designed to transfer, lift, rotate and convey boxes weighing up to 10,000 pounds that were buried; and of undetermined footprint. We also transferred drums that were being retrieved, assayed, compacted and re-containerized for transfer to the new remediation facility.


Robot Interface Equipment

If your system requires that the product be precisely located for interface with automation equipment, Lauyans & Company can provide a design to suit your needs.

We have provided specialty equipment to locate, square and repeatably index the product in a manner suited for automatic interface. Several examples are shown below.

A gantry robot application requires precise locating of a shipping container for loading of synthetic rubber bales. Previous to the development of this machine, the customer experienced crashes of the robot head, damage to product and dangerous tipping of stacked containers in the warehouse due to poorly processed loads. This machine solved all of these previous issues.

An indexing shuttle picks pallets from the main transport line, and locks them into position for interface with an articulated arm robot.

Synchronous Conveyor System

Lauyans & Company was asked to provide a system concept to convey heavy beams through the production process (cutting, welding, etc.) Previous methods for handling this product were inefficient and dangerous.

Lauyans & Company developed a system layout that used a Synchronous Indexing Conveyor on the upper deck; with a powered conveyor directly underneath for empty pallet return.

The pallet design was also a very unique part of this system. It allows the operator to easily remove the beam at each processing station, and after the work is completed the operator re-inserts the beam into the pallet so that it may be indexed to the next station. The pallet includes a roll-over fixture to aid the operator in “flipping” of the beam when required.
