Case Study 3 • Drum and Box Handling System (Nuclear Waste Remediation)

Challenge:
Provide conveyance for drums and boxes containing transuranic waste. The major challenge was to make the conveyance system as flexible as possible, due to the fact that the conveying surface and the condition of the containers is unknown prior to the point of retrieval.

Solution:
Drawing on years of custom applications expertise, we developed the most reliable yet flexible handling system possible.  Many unique transfers, (both horizontal and vertical) were developed for this project. The requirement to convey through rooms that must be sealed (for safe transfer of the box contents) presented the opportunity to develop several customized conveyors and transfer devices.
